This art is part of our children's book "Sonny Sunflower Triumphs Over Bullying" where Sonny's best friend, his joy and strength is bullied and dies in the story. I don't normally give the plot away of our book but this recent tragedy in Orlando just proves that we still struggle as LGBT community members to be accepted and to be treated equally without a threat.
I got an advice back then to veer away from my usual LGBT themed art pieces. That advice aims to make my art more universally appreciated in the country if not the whole world. However, I know I can do it but something inside of me does not want to conform just to make it. I have worked my way up to be recognized as an emerging LGBT visual artist in San Francisco and some parts of the US albeit its slow pace, I believe I have made it and have been doing just fine.
Now I firmly believe that my pieces have never been more relevant than ever. We will continue to advocate for tolerance, acceptance, understanding and equality; and my art will continue to do so.
